When Rampoipone Mathe arrives in Molelema with his followerss and his herd of 'beautiful monster' Brahman cattle, eager to build a church, he steps into a complictaed web of local politics. He is faced with the nevy of a rival cattle-owner, a king whose pride is easily stung, and a series of mysterious personal disasters. But the preacher's faith remains strong.
When drought devastates the land of the Bathlaping, it is Ramoipone who saves the day with his revolutionary ideas of digging a well.
